Welcome back everyone. It’s now 2008. This term our class, the Funsters, have been learning about how to save water in our environment. The reason why we are learning about how to save water, is because Australia has  been receiving less water  than in  past years. Well you must be asking, why is Australia in a drought? Well it is because it hasn’t rained in Australia a lot lately. Well, ok then, we have had rain but it wasn’t a lot of rain, it was just ‘one minute rain’ much of the time. So we really need to look at ways to save the precious water we have. Stay tuned for more information and water saving tips.

Game Making

You might remember back in an earlier post we talked about how we were about to create outdoor games in groups. Well, we came up with some fun games: have a look at some of the pictures. Watch out for a procedure on how to play each game also.

Equipment:   A basketball per team   Two teams(including yourself)   2 hula hoops    How to play:1.     Firstly, separate into two teams. One person has to call out brainiac… then mania. The caller can’t look what is happening. 2.   When the caller yells out ‘brainac’ the first person in line on each team has to run up to the basketball in the hoop on the other teams direction. 3.    Then they pick up the basketballs. 4.  Dribble the ball back to the end of the line before the caller yells out ‘mania’. 5.  When the person yells out mania you have made it. The caller turns around. The team opens their legs and the person with the ball, rolls it through the legs until it reaches the front.  6.  Then the person at the front dribbles the ball to where the ball was at the beginning of the game. 7.    Repeat this routine until everyone in the team finishes.

Why is it so?

Have you been wondering why the egg shell disappeared? The vinegar, which is dilute (weak) acetic acid destroys the eggshell. Since the shell is what makes the egg hard, the skin is left behind. A vinegar soaked egg feels soft and rubbery. Yum! (not really)

One Week Later

We’re back!

Well it’s one week later and as you will see from the photo, the vinegar has largely evaporated. There is a white powdery scum on the top of the egg also. Why is this so? We will tell you why soon, stay tuned.

Day 4/Day 6: The Final Day

Welcome back!

It’s Day 4 of reporting but Day 6 of the experiment due to the weekend.

We have decided that this will be our final day of the egg experiment because the egg shell has almost completely disappeared and we don’t think much else is going to happen.

We still want to see if anything else does happen, so we have decided to report on the blog in one week’s time.

On to today’s observations:

* there is a foul odour emanating the experiment

* there are hardly any bubbles inside the experiment

* at least half the egg shell is missing

* the top of the egg is hard - it has also at times not been covered by vinegar

* there is a white substance stuck to the inside of the glass.

Day 3

Today our table groups observed some differences:

’sugar sweet’ -  the shell is starting to peel more and crack

‘curious colours’- the egg is turning softer

‘gear up’- the colours on the egg are turning pale

’slime time’- there is less froth and bubbles than yesterday

’smart metal’- there is no shell on the bottom of the egg.

Overall, the egg shell seems to be disappearing.

We think this is happening because the vinegar may be burning the egg shell.

Where has the egg shell gone? Maybe it is the brown stuff we can see.

On Monday we will have another look.

2 people think it will look much the same.

25 people think it will look a lot different.

Most of us want to find out where the egg has gone- we’ll wait until Monday.

Have a nice weekend.
